Two Up Front nets Soccer Sevens website role

Friday, January 6th, 2012

Two Up Front will play a key role as both creator and finisher as the world’s premier seven-a-side football tournament enters a new era.

The Hong Kong-based sports company has reached an agreement to once again handle PR and media management on behalf of the HKFC Citibank International Soccer Sevens as well as publish the souvenir programme.

In addition, tournament organisers have contracted the company to oversee the redesign and build of the tournament’s official website.

“We have been involved in the Soccer Sevens since 2008 and are delighted to maintain our close relationship with this prestigious and exciting tournament,” said Two Up Front editorial director Niall Donnelly.

“In particular, we are especially delighted to be overseeing the relaunch of the official website. Everyone connected with the tournament accepts the site needs a radical overhaul and we are honoured to be given this vital role.

“In this day and age an attractive, informative, up-to-date and easily navigated website is essential for any sports event and we are confident of delivering a site that meets the organising committee’s expectations.”

The Soccer Sevens has been given a huge boost with the news that Citibank has committed to being a long-term supporter of the tournament. The company stepped in at the last minute to sponsor the 2011 event and has now signed a three-year agreement to continue the relationship.

The 2012 Soccer Sevens will be held at Hong Kong Football Club from 18-20 May. The tournament has two categories – a Main competition that features Premier League clubs from England and Scotland and has become famous for unearthing the “stars of tomorrow”, and a Masters section that boasts legends of the game from Europe’s top leagues.

Past winners of the Main competition include Aston Villa (four times), Celtic, Arsenal and Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds.

The Soccer Sevens is part of Two Up Front’s extensive sports event management, publishing and PR portfolio that also includes rugby, golf and motor racing.

Eight years and counting at the Sevens

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Hong Kong Sevens fans can look forward to some more entertaining reading at the 2012 tournament after Two Up Front renewed its agreement with the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union to publish the official souvenir programme and pocket guide.

It will be the eighth year in a row that Two Up Front has edited, designed and produced the acclaimed dual publication.

“We are thrilled to once again be entrusted with the programme and pocket guide and to maintain our central role in the best sevens tournament in the world,” said Two Up Front editorial director Niall Donnelly.

“We guarantee fans at the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2012 an attractive and relevant publication that will serve as both a vital guide to the event and a valued memento from a brilliant weekend.

“It is a significant time for the Sevens with HSBC returning as co-title sponsor after 15 years away and we are sure they, and other sponsors, will be viewing the programme and pocket guide as a key part of their marketing plans for the tournament.”

The Sevens programme and pocket guide are part of Hong Kong-based Two Up Front’s extensive sports portfolio that includes publishing, event management and public relations in a variety of sports.

Soccer Sevens PR campaign hits the target

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

Two Up Front scored another PR victory over its rivals last weekend when the HKFC Citibank International Soccer Sevens made headlines around the world.

The Hong Kong-based sports company ran an innovative PR campaign that capitalised on the presence of Liverpool and Boca Juniors – both making their debuts in the tournament – and that of Everton and England great Peter Reid.

“As always when the Soccer Sevens teams are announced, we looked for publicity angles that would appeal to journalists both at home and overseas,” explained Two Up Front project director Simon Wait.

“Liverpool have a massive Asian fan base and there was a lot of interest in their young squad, so we focused on that and highlighted some of the players coming to Hong Kong, in particular their highly-rated Spanish playmaker, Suso.

“Boca Juniors, meanwhile, were the first South American team to take part in the tournament, so we ensured that the global Spanish-language media were aware of that fact. As a result, the Soccer Sevens enjoyed unprecedented coverage in South America.

“Peter Reid was guest speaker at the pre-tournament dinner and, as a former Manchester City manager and Stoke City assistant, he was ideally placed to give his views on the forthcoming FA Cup final between those two clubs. His exclusive interview with one news agency was given fantastic exposure in the UK.”

Two Up Front also made Hong Kong journalists aware that the goalkeeper for Scottish giants Celtic, young Australian Nick Feely, had been born and raised in the territory – thus adding to the local media interest.

The Soccer Sevens, sponsored for the first time by Citibank, was played from 13-15 May at Hong Kong Football Club in front of excellent crowds. The tournament was won for the first time by newly-crowned Hong Kong First Division champions Kitchee, who beat Celtic 1-0 in the final with a goal from Spanish striker Roberto Losada.

Two Up Front also published the tournament’s official souvenir programme, which included features on Liverpool, Boca, Reid and defending champions Aston Villa as well as match schedules and a guide to all 28 competing teams.

The Soccer Sevens success came just two months after Two Up Front handled PR and media management for a visit to Hong Kong by Brazilian soccer great Pelé in his role as honorary president of the revived New York Cosmos.

Magnificent seventh for programme and pocket guide

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Organisers of the world famous Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens have once again engaged Two Up Front to publish the tournament’s official souvenir programme and pocket guide.

It will be the seventh year in a row that the Hong Kong company has produced the vaunted publication, which renowned commentator Nigel Starmer-Smith has gone on record as saying is “as good as any souvenir rugby programme that I have encountered over the years covering rugby around the world”.

“We’re delighted that the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union has once again asked us to research, edit, design and publish the Sevens programme and pocket guide,” said Two Up Front editorial director Niall Donnelly.

“Our vision when we came on board in 2005 was to produce a publication which matched the world class standards and reputation of the tournament and the feedback from the HKRFU, teams and fans is that we have consistently achieved that goal.

“As ever, the challenge will be to innovate and improve while retaining the core features of the programme and pocket guide which have proved so popular over the years.”

The Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens will be held from 25-27 March, 2011. The tournament is universally regarded as the biggest and most prestigious event in the annual IRB Sevens World Series.

Since Two Up Front began publishing the souvenir programme and pocket guide, the dual publication has sold out every year.

Two Up Front also publishes the official programme – and handles global PR – for the HKFC IP Global International Soccer Sevens, which is held at Hong Kong Football Club each May.

The company recently acted as PR consultants to global watch giant Omega at the Mission Hills Star Trophy pro-celebrity golf tournament in China.

In addition, Two Up Front currently handles worldwide PR and media management for Korea’s biggest golf tournament, the Ballantine’s Championship, which is co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours.

Bledisloe Cup contract agreed with HKRFU

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Rugby giants New Zealand and Australia are returning to Hong Kong and Two Up Front will once again play a key role in the high-profile fixture.

The company has reached an agreement with the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union to write, design and produce the official souvenir programme.

It is the second time Two Up Front has been entrusted with the programme, having also been publisher when New Zealand and Australia played the first ever overseas Bledisloe Cup match, in Hong Kong, in 2008.

The All Blacks and Wallabies will meet at the Hong Kong Stadium on Saturday, 30 October. It will be the fourth and final test in the 2010 series after earlier encounters in Melbourne (31 July), Christchurch (7 August) and Sydney (11 September).

“We are delighted to once again be playing a key role in this high-profile and eagerly anticipated rugby fixture,” said Two Up Front project director Simon Wait.

“The 2008 programme was very popular with fans and we received excellent feedback from the Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australian rugby unions.

“Naturally, we will be aiming to once again produce a publication that is full of quality in terms of design and content and we will ensure it is totally in keeping with a sports event of this magnitude.”

Two Up Front also produces the official souvenir programme and pocket guide for the world famous Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament, the biggest and most prestigious event in the IRB Sevens World Series.

In addition, the company handles worldwide PR and media management for the HKFC IP Global International Soccer Sevens and Korea’s biggest golf tournament, the Ballantine’s Championship, which is co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours.

Double strike delights Soccer Sevens chiefs

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Two Up Front hit the target twice at the recent HKFC IP Global International Soccer Sevens – delivering outstanding PR results and a quality souvenir programme for the organisers.

For the third year in a row, Two Up Front handled worldwide PR and media management at the popular tournament, held at Hong Kong Football Club from 14-16 May.

More than 100 media personnel attended the event, generating outstanding local, regional and international coverage across a broad range of TV networks, newspapers, magazines, radio programmes and websites.

And in a new development, Two Up Front was also entrusted with producing the official souvenir programme and the company delivered a stylish and informative publication which delighted organisers and fans alike.

“With the specialist help of Two Up Front, media and public interest in the Soccer Sevens continues to grow, with the result that media coverage and crowd figures for the 2010 tournament were significantly higher than last year,” said Soccer Sevens organising committee chairman Tony Bratsanos.

“In addition, the official souvenir programme was the best yet in terms of design and content and proved very popular with fans.”

First played in 1999, the Soccer Sevens has become one of the highlights of the crowded international football calendar. The 32-team tournament is divided into two sections – a Main competition that attracts some of the best young talent at elite European clubs and a Masters event that features recently retired stars.

Aston Villa won the Main competition for a record fifth time, defeating Glasgow Rangers 3-2 in the final, while in the Masters final KFC Tokyo pulled off a surprise 2-1 victory over the Andy Cole Jura All Stars.

Two Up Front also handles worldwide PR and media management for Korea’s biggest golf tournament, the Ballantine’s Championship, which is co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours.

In addition, the company publishes the acclaimed official programme and pocket guide for the world famous Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament.

Rugby Sevens programme sells out – again

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

The official programme and pocket guide for the Hong Kong Sevens once again became a collector’s item for rugby fans.

For the sixth year running, the dual publication – produced as usual by Two Up Front – sold out before the showpiece tournament had finished.

The sales booth inside the main entrance to the Hong Kong Stadium ran out of copies by mid-afternoon on Saturday (27 March) – the second day of the three-day tournament.

Hong Kong Rugby Football Union officials were delighted with the publication. “The Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens 2010 souvenir programme and pocket guide once again proved to be extremely popular with fans, spectators, sponsors and officials alike,” said HKRFU Sevens manager Warrick Dent.

“As usual, the design and content were of the highest standard and we received plenty of positive feedback about what was another top quality publication from Two Up Front.”

Among those admiring the programme was International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge, who was guest of honour at the tournament following the historic decision last year to re-admit rugby to the Olympic Games.

Two Up Front introduced the concept of a pocket guide to be sold with the programme when the company was first contracted to produce the souvenir publication in 2005.

Two Up Front also publishes the souvenir programme for the HKFC IP Global International Soccer Sevens and Annual Reports for the HKRFU and Hong Kong Football Club.

In addition, the company handles worldwide PR for the HKFC IP Global International Soccer Sevens and two high-profile golf tournaments, the Hong Kong Open and the Ballantine’s Championship in Korea.

HKFC success prompts expansion of annual report service

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Two Up Front is looking to expand its annual report publishing division after producing another excellent publication for the Hong Kong Football Club.

“The feedback we have received on all our annual reports has been very positive and we are looking to offer this service to even more companies and sporting organisations in Hong Kong,” said Two Up Front project director Simon Wait.

“Annual reports sometimes have a reputation for being rather dull, but they are an underestimated way for an organisation to make an impact. So if anyone is looking for a classy and stylish product that portrays their organisation in a positive light, they should contact us.”

Senior management at the HKFC are so delighted with their 2008-09 annual report that they intend to submit it for an award.

“We received an honourable mention [for design] at last year’s Hong Kong Management Association Annual Report Awards and we’ll be submitting this year’s report into the same category,” said HKFC general manager Mark Pawley.

Two Up Front has designed and published the HKFC’s annual reports since 2005.

The 2007-08 edition was illustrated with photographic portraits of “back of house” staff members who do so much to keep the prestigious sports club running smoothly.

The candid photographs gave the annual report a human touch and prompted “a number of very complimentary remarks” from HKFC members, according to Pawley.

This year’s publication featured photographs of members of the club’s various sporting sections, including Soccer, Rugby, Tennis, Lawn Bowls and Squash.

Both sets of portraits were taken by one of Hong Kong’s top photographers, Gareth Brown of Blow Up Studios.

Two Up Front has also published the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union’s annual reports since 2003.

The company also publishes the acclaimed official programme and pocket guide for the world famous Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament.

Sevens programme results in another sell-out

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Two Up Front’s official programme and pocket guide for the Hong Kong Sevens once again proved an irresistible buy for rugby fans.

For the fifth year in a row, the dual publication sold out before the tournament had finished.

"Once again, we received extremely positive feedback about the programme and the pocket guide and the fact that it sold out once more is very gratifying,” said Two Up Front editorial director Niall Donnelly.

"This year, we tried to place more focus on some of the newer teams who were taking part, so we had features on both the West Indies and Uruguay in addition to articles about the big guns such as New Zealand, South Africa and Fiji.”

Two Up Front introduced the concept of a pocket guide to be sold with the programme when the company was first contracted to produce the souvenir publication in 2005.

Two Up Front also publishes the souvenir programmes for the GFI HKFC Tens rugby tournament and UBS Hong Kong Open golf showpiece.

In addition, the company handles worldwide PR for the GFI HKFC Tens, the UBS Hong Kong Open, the HKFC IP Global International Soccer Sevens and the Ballantine’s Championship golf tournament in Korea.

Organisers reflect on another perfect Tens

The 2009 edition of the popular GFI HKFC Tens rugby tournament proved another soaraway success with sports publishing and PR firm Two Up Front once again playing a key role.

For the fifth year in a row, Two Up Front handed worldwide PR and published the souvenir programme for the event.

"Once again, feedback about the programme from organisers and spectators was extremely positive and we had a strong media presence,” commented Two Up Front project director Simon Wait.

"The event is regarded as the best ten-a-side rugby tournament in the world and we like to think this was reflected in the quality of the programme and the level of media interest.”

Sixteen club and invitational teams from all over the world took part in the 2009 Tens, which was staged at Hong Kong Football Club from March 25-26.

Crack New Zealand team Aliens carried off the Cup for the fifth time with a 24-7 victory over the Alternative New Zealand Legends.

Two Up Front also handles PR for two of Asia’s biggest golf tournaments, the UBS Hong Kong Open and the Ballantine’s Championship in Korea, and another prestigious event hosted by the Hong Kong Football Club, the HKFC IP Global International Soccer Sevens.
