Ballantine’s Championship to spring into action
Seoul, Korea, 31 October 2008 - Spring will be in the air when the second Ballantine’s Championship is staged in Korea next year.
Organisers have agreed with the European Tour to move the tournament from mid-March to a new permanent slot in late April.
It means the 2009 Ballantine’s Championship will be staged from April 23-26 – with the venue once again being Pinx Golf Club on the picturesque holiday island of Jeju.
“The inaugural Ballantine’s Championship last March was a success on all levels,” said Simon Burley, marketing manager for Ballantine’s.
“We had four fantastic days of golf, a thrilling playoff and 14,000 fans enjoying excellent weather.
“In planning for the 2009 tournament, a new slot on the European Tour’s International Schedule – six weeks after the original date – became available and we decided to take it.
“Jeju in the spring is perfect for golf and we anticipate the weather being even better than it was this year. We are looking forward to what promises to be another fantastic tournament.”
Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell won the inaugural Ballantine’s Championship – the first European Tour event to be held in Korea – when he beat India’s Jeev Milkha Singh in a pulsating playoff.
Ballantine’s is title sponsoring the tournament – which is co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours and Korea PGA – for a minimum of three years.
