RECORD CROWDS AT UBS HONG KONG OPEN Hong Kong, November 22,2007 - Two Up Front was celebrating another golfing success story as record crowds attended the 2007 UBS Hong Kong Open. Last week’s US$2.25 million showpiece at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling attracted an astonishing total attendance of 31,000 – an increase of 10,000 on last year and more than double the number of spectators at the 2005 event. In addition, the number of accredited media attending topped the double century mark for the first time at 201. Two Up Front played a key role in the tournament’s success by handling public relations – locally, around the region and worldwide – and producing a string of high class publications. The company also staffed and ran the on-side media centre during tournament week. “We distributed a total of 32 press releases about this year’s Open on subjects as diverse as player announcements, the qualifying tournament, spectator facilities and daily round-ups of play,” said Two Up Front’s project director, Simon Wait. “These releases were distributed not only in English, but also in traditional Chinese for the Hong Kong media and simplified Chinese for mainland China and undoubtedly played a part in attracting so many fans to the tournament. “In addition, we ensured spectators who attended enjoyed the benefit of high quality publications, including an 88-page souvenir programme, daily scoresheets and a daily tournament newsletter. “We also take great pride in running what is widely considered one of the best equipped and most efficient media centres on the European and Asian Tours. Once again, the feedback from media this year was extremely positive.” The 2007 UBS Hong Kong Open marked the second year of Two Up Front’s three year agreement with promoter Parallel Media Group to handle PR and publishing for the tournament. The agreement means Two Up Front will continue to play a vital role when the landmark 50th edition of the tournament is staged in November 2008. Co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours, the Open was first staged in 1959 and is Hong Kong’s oldest professional sporting event. In addition to the Hong Kong event, Two Up Front recently secured the public relations account for an exciting new US$2.6 million tournament in Korea, the Ballantine’s Championship, to be held in March 2008. The company has also handled PR for European and Asian Tour co-sanctioned tournaments in China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. Fans who turned up at Fanling in record numbers were rewarded with sun-soaked weather and four days of brilliant golf, culminating in Spain’s Miguel Angel Jiménez, the 2004 champion, winning the title for a second time.
